What fits an 8 to 14 tonne carrier
Auxiliary flow typically runs 80 to 140 litres per minute at 160 to 200 bar. Most modern carriers in this class are spec'd well; older units may need a relief valve verification before commissioning a heavier breaker.
- Montabert SD42: 8 to 15 tonne carriers. The largest compact-class option. Strong choice if the carrier will also handle landscaping or finishing work.
- Montabert M900: 9 to 14 tonne carriers. The transition model into the medium class. Higher impact energy than the SD42, slightly lower BPM.
- Montabert V32: 11 to 18 tonne carriers. Variable-frequency. The economic sweet spot if the carrier can feed it.
- Montabert V45: 14 to 20 tonne carriers. Only for the very top edge of this class with hydraulics genuinely uprated for it.

Compact vs medium class: where the line falls
The honest answer: it falls where your hydraulics fall. A modern 12 tonne carrier with well-maintained auxiliary plumbing will run a V32 at full duty. A 12 tonne carrier approaching mid-life with restrictive return lines will run an SD42 properly but lose 15 to 20 percent of a V32's rated impact energy.
